There’s a new team at the top of Italian rugby, and for the first time in its history: Valorugby Emilia are Italian champions. In Padua, at a sold-out Stadio Plebiscito (over 7,000 spectators) and live on Rai 2, the Diavoli beat Petrarca 27-5 in the Serie A Elite 2025/26 final.

Who won the 2025/26 Serie A Elite title

Valorugby Emilia, who beat Petrarca Rugby 27-5 (21-5 at half-time) in the final on 2 June 2026 in Padua. It’s the first Scudetto in the history of the Reggio Emilia club.

A triumph worth double

It didn’t come out of nowhere: it’s the high point of a phenomenal season. Valorugby had already put the Coppa Italia in the cabinet and finished the regular season top, as clearly the strongest side in the competition. The title completes a historic double.

How the final was decided

In DanPat’s analysis, Petrarca didn’t disgrace themselves: in the first 20-25 minutes they «did everything they had to do», riding the momentum of a side that had reached the final by knocking out Rovigo twice. Then, though, the real difference emerged: Valorugby’s depth and game management. The scrum stopped being a weapon for the Padua side, and in the second-half breakdowns the Emilians contained every comeback attempt, closing the gaps and managing the game like a big team. Player of the final: Schalk Hugo.

«In the first 20-25 minutes Petrarca did everything they had to do.»
